About us

The FieldRobotEvent (FRE) was founded to motivate students to actively engage in the development of autonomous field robots and to experience agricultural robotics beyond laboratory environments. The idea was to create a practical and interdisciplinary platform where engineering, computer science, and agriculture come together. The first FieldRobotEvent took place in 2003 at Wageningen University. From the very beginning, the focus was on real fields, real crops, and real challenges. Students were encouraged to design, build, and test their robots under realistic outdoor conditions and to learn from both success and failure. Over the years, the FieldRobotEvent has grown into a well-established international competition. Long before agricultural robotics and digitalisation became widely discussed topics, the FRE provided an annual snapshot of the state of the art in field robotics and precision agriculture. Today, the FieldRobotEvent brings together student teams, research groups, and young engineers from many countries. Each year, they develop autonomous field robots that must solve practical agricultural tasks. The event supports education, innovation, and exchange and helps to train the next generation of experts in agricultural robotics.
The Field Robot Event is a global, student-driven competition dedicated to advancing autonomous agricultural robotics.
